Chennai: The day after mysterious objects fell from the sky in Vadakkupattu near Thirukukazhukundram and created panic among the villagers, experts on Tuesday identified as Sonobuoy Naval – used for underwater acoustic research.
Navy officials then took it from the police.
The probe will be done to find out how it lands in the village.
The three-leg-length cylindrical object was discovered by Venkatess, a 55-year-old Vadakkupattu resident walked in the field with his goat on Monday night.
He told the police that he heard a loud voice and hurried to see objects falling from the sky.
Assuming it was explosive, he reminded other residents who told the village administration officers (VAO) and Police Thirukazhukadram.
A team arrived at the place and took him to a quiet place.
They cleaned the crowd that had gathered the place.
Many women drag their children.
Because the area was less bright, the police used cellphone lights and analyzed it.
Warning messages written on it warn that it is a potentially dangerous object whose illegal handling can cause injury.
Then, scientific experts were brought and found it was a naval sonobuoy.
They suspected it could fall from the plane that conducted research in the marine ecosystem.
Sonobuoys is packed in a tube and installed on the plane.
They were removed from the plane when they last passed a certain area on the water and the Indian Navy used it for a research study.
