Coimbatore: South Railway on Wednesday launched a plan to operate Palakkad-Polluchi-Thiruchendur Train Unreserved Express Daily from Thursday.
It should be noted that the previous train planned to operate the Polachi-Thiruchendur express train from Wednesday and the same was canceled on Tuesday without quoting any reason.
Now, the train has canceled Palakkad-Pollachi passenger train, which was recently introduced, and announced the Palakkad-Polluchendur express train.
This step disappointed railroad users in the district which had searched for an extension of the train to Mettupalayam.
Questioning the logic behind operating the train from Palakkad, where there is another express train to Madurai during the same time, the Consultative Committee of the Salem Division Railway User area, said the train must be operated from Mettupalayam through Thiruchendur.
He said the association of train users prepared to protest against the decision, ignoring the needs of the people in the district.
S Shanmugasundaram, Member of the Madurai Division Train User Consultation Committee, said the train had to run the train connection to and from Coimbatore to Polachi for Palakad-Tiruchendur train and Tiruchendur-Palakkad Express.
“After looking for residential levels of the area, the train can decide whether to operate it from palakad or coimbatore.”
