CHENNAI: The10- member panel formed after the cancellation of Class XII state board examinations has suggested five different evaluation criteria with different weightage to Class X, XI board exams, and school-level tests in Class XII.
The state government is expected to announce the evaluation criteria in a day or two.
CBSE Class XII evaluation criteria give 30% weightage to Class X board exams, 30% weightage to Class XI annual exams.
It gives 40% weightage to unit tests, mid-term tests, and pre-board exams conducted in Class XII.
The practical and internal assessment test marks will be the same as uploaded by the schools.
“The expert panel has drafted five different methods to award marks to Class XII students.
It includes different weightage for Class X, XI board exams and Class XII internal tests and practical exams.
The panel also calculated the percentage of marks that students would get compared to the previous years.
They submitted these five different methods to the state government,” sources in the school education department said.

The government is likely to give higher weightage to Class X, XI exam marks compared to CBSE as these exams were board exams and marks were available with the directorate of government examination.
“All schools have conducted revision tests for Class XII students.
But, ensuring the credibility of school-level test scores in Class XII will be a challenge,” sources added.
It seems that panel members worried that private schools might inflate the scores in class-level tests to enable their students to get higher marks.
In the 2019-20 academic year, the Class X exams were cancelled and marks were awarded based on quarterly and half-yearly marks.
Officials said many schools had given perfect scores to students which otherwise was not possible in board exams.
“The main concern of the panel was to ensure that the state board students are not affected in admissions to colleges and professional courses.
So, the evaluation methods have been drafted from CBSE’s Class XII evaluation criteria.” a panel member said.
Meanwhile, school principals urged the state government to provide an opportunity to students to write the exam after Covid-19 second wave subsides if they were aggrieved with their marks.
“All sections of the students and parents may not be satisfied with whatever evaluation criteria adopted by the state government.
So, the government needs to give those students to write exams after the Covid-19 cases come down.
Their numbers will be less,” said GJ Manohar, principal of MCC Higher Secondary School in Chetpet.
