Madurai: Covid-19 Cases may drop steadily in most districts across the state, but post-covid clinics established in government medical colleges see less patients who come to follow up unlike the first wave of last year’s pandemic.
This is regardless of the fact that there has been a significant increase in their numbers with post-covid vascular complications and mukormycosis during the second wave.
The doctor has called for more vigilance among Covid-19 patients about post-covid complications.
The doctor at the Madurai Rajaji Hospital (GRH) said that they recovered from Covid-19 did not take the possibility of post-covid symptoms seriously.
“We only get around four patients a day for post-covid op,” said Grh Dean Dr A Rathinavel.
He said many of these patients first went to the general ops before being referred to the post-covid clinic about knowing their history.
“Fatigue, shortness of breath, insomnia and Mialgia are quite common among them.
Lung fibrosis is also seen in some cases,” said Dr.
Prabhakaran, Head of the Torkish Department of Medicine at GRH.
Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai saw around 10-15 patients on average in the post-covid clinic now.
“The case of the minimum lung fibrosis now.
However, we have 120 cases of post-covid vascular complications and we also treat more than 1,200 cases of mucormycosis from all states and other states.
Post-covid psychological problems are also more visible.
Use of steroids for Care also leads to patients who develop new onset of diabetes mellitus and fluctuations in blood sugar levels, “said Dean Hospital Dr.
Estariranjan.
A senior doctor at the Mahatma Gandhi (MGMH) Memorial Government Hospital in Trichy said only three to four patients visited the post-covid clinic who continued the recent function.
They generally come with complaints of breathing difficulties, fungal infections and fever.
The main complications such as lung fibrosis are not visible in restored patients.
Post-covid op at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital receive an average of 10-15 people.
“We write in a summary of the release that asks them to return without delay if they find health problems because it can cause many complications.
But people have come for a very few follow-up,” Dean A Nirmala said.
