Chennai: new casts fell to 1,804 in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, when at least 16 districts each reported more than 25 cases.
Nearly three months after reporting more than 36,000 cases a day, almost all districts came out of red.
But the presence of the new Delta Plus and Cluster variants in the district has forced the health department to remain cautious especially in the Chennai and Coimbatore regions and at least four Delta districts around Thanjavur.
On Tuesday, Chennai had 209 new cases against 205 on Monday, while Coimbatore had 206 cases against 217 on Monday.
Weekly front levels above two in Thanjavur and Coimbatore.
At least 15 other districts have the level of participation above the average state of 1.2.
“Some like Chennai, with the level of participants below, report a new cluster.
So, we see a combination of epidemiological factors,” said Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.
“The purpose of the extent is to test at least 1.5 lakh people every day.
This includes targeted and random testing,” he said.
Last week, the results of the sample sent for the genome sequencing back with at least 10 Delta Plus variants in the state so far.
“From more than 36,000 new cases a day in May, new cases fell to around 1,900 on July 19.
But for almost a month since then they have floated between 1,800 and 1,900.” We can continue to see a number of cases every day because of us still has a vulnerable population …, “said Public Health Director Dr.
S Selvavinayagam.
Besides Chennai and Coimbatore, all other districts reported less than 200 cases.
While Erode (167), Thanjavur (121), Salem (117) and Chengalpet 110) report cases in three digits, all the others report cases in two digits.
With only four cases, Virudhunagar has the lowest.
In the end, there are 20,225 active cases.
Cumulative toll road, including 32 deaths reported on Tuesday, moved to 34,579 .
Of the 32 deaths, there were four each in Chennai and Chengalpet, while 21 districts reported zero death.
Meanwhile, 2.3 lakh people took the Covid-19 vaccine at the government vaccine center on Tuesday.
