Chennai: Tamil Nadu on Sunday recorded 1,592 new Covid-19 infections to push the overall calculation to 26,22,678 to date, while 18 people surrendered to the virus, took the victim to 35,018, the health department said.
Recovery is slightly higher than new cases with 1,607 people out in the last 24 hours, collecting up to 25.71,378 leaving 16,282 active infections, said a medical bulletin.
As many as 1.62,119 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens checked up to 4.31.17.256 until now.
A total of four districts consisted of most new infections with coimbatore logging 229 cases, followed by Chennai (165), Chengalpet (127) and eroded 104 while the rest were scattered in other districts.

Twenty-eight districts reported new cases in two digits, while there were no new deaths in 25 districts.
Among the 18 fatalities, 11 surrendered to government health facilities while seven died in private health care facilities.
Five of the deceased did not have co-morbidity or existing diseases.
Two private laboratories – each at Erode and Nagapattinam – Recently given approval by the government to carry out testing Covid-19 taking the total number of facilities operating in the country 290, said Bulletin.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Medical and Welfare of the MA Subramanian family said the government had planned to hold 10,000 vaccination camps crossing Tamil Nadu targeting to autoculate 20 lakh people in one day.
Speaking with reporters he said, “Chief Minister M K Stalin has suggested to hold 10,000 vaccination camps that cover all 38 districts targeting 20 lakh people on one day.
Tomorrow or the day after we will discuss the program with the district collector.” Subramanian said the department reached a significant 3.50 crore vaccination on Saturday, with a record of 6.20 lakh people who received Jab yesterday.
“Today we received 19.22 Lakh vaccines, making it the highest in terms of vaccines received on one day.
We have 14.44 lakh vaccines in stock and besides the dose of lakh today there will be around 34 lakh doses inventory,” he said.
Subramanian said additional doses were sent to the country after his recent visit to New Delhi was he met the Mansukh Mansukhi Health Minister who asked to increase the number of doses – aimed at combining all residents who limit Kerala, which have reported a high Covid-19 case.
Noting that the children who infected transmission are not new and have some infants affected by the virus during the second wave, he said recently 40 children in the orphanage in Uthiramerur was tested for a Delta Plus variant.
“At present, children are fine.
Those who are related to them are also in good condition.
No need to panic,” he said.
In some students and teachers who had tested Covid-19 positive after school reopened on September 1 in several districts, Subramanian clarified that it was wrong to say that they were tested positive after coming to campus.
“They must have contracted a virus in the future to come to school.
It is wrong to say that they have tested Covid-19 positive after coming to schools.
Schools are now closed for security reasons,” he said.
