Tamil Nadu: There are no more victims in OMR, but taxis charge an additional fee

Chennai: The collection of user costs was suspended at four Mahabalipuram (OMR) toll road plazas long last week.
But application-based taxi aggregators such as Ola and Uber continue to burden 30 to 60 as toll costs until now.
The state government suspends OMR toll collection to facilitate the construction work of Chennai Metro Limited (CMRL).
This step is welcomed by the public because it reduces travel time and traffic congestion along the IT corridor.
More than 4,000 private companies have offices along OMR and many of their employees depend on private taxis to reach the office and return home.
Because OMR does not have a train network, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus and share autos is too crowded.
So, dependence on a high taxi.
On average, a taxi between Madhya Kailash and Siruseri will cost 300 to 500 depending on the type of selected vehicle, request, and travel time.
On the way, taxis must cross two toll plazas and 60 collected as toll costs.
“Even after this toll gate is closed, the taxi continues to burden 60 every day.
Both taxi drivers and company assistance channels have an explanation of this excess collection collection,” said S Dinesh from Perungudi.
When contacted, both Ola and Uber promised to return.
But there was no response until when submitting this report.
Not only private taxis, but the same logic can also be applied to MTC, Bus Chennai too.
When the State Transportation Department revised the government bus rates in 2018, he introduced the CESS component.
So, the MTC rate includes Cess 1 Rupee for accident compensation and toll cost.
“There is no transparency in the number of CESS collected.
Even three years later, we continue to see government buses confiscated by the court for non-payment compensation for accident victims,” said R Rengachari, a transportation activist.
Now MTC will not pay the number of toll roads to Tamil Nadu Road Development Corporation (TNRDC), the state agency that maintains OMR, bus ticket rates must be reduced, he added.
During the pre-covid era, MTC operates 110 buses along the IT corridor.
Each of these buses attracts one passenger step 130 to 150 travel, according to official data.
Meanwhile, the private taxi driver and part of the public have asked TNRDC to suspend the collection of tolls in Navalure Booth as well.
The ministers have clarified that there were no plans for memo because the toll booth was not located within the city limits.
