Tamil Nadu: Three More Killed in Incident Related to Rain

Chennai: Three more people died on Thursday night and Friday, took the death toll in an accident related to rain in the state to 17 in the last five days.
The state government sent an SMS alert to around 2.67 lakh people who lived on the banks of the Kosasthalaiyar river on the disposal of 18,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second) from the PoDi reservoir in Thiruvallur.
Similar alerts were sent to 36,720 people when 15,000 cusecs were released from Ponnai Anicut in Vellore.
Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management and Disaster R Ramachandran told reporters in Chennai that three deaths were reported again in Chennai, Sivaganga and Nilgiris Regency.
Administration also recorded 64 livestock deaths, partial damage to 500 huts and total damage in 34 cottages.

A five-year-old boy was killed and his family members were sustained injured after the roof of their house collapsed due to relentless rain in Salem on Friday.
The boy was identified as Bala Sabari, son of Ramasamy and Nandhini from the Locality of Alfiktai in Ponmatsapet.
The police said that it was an old tile roof house and weakened due to heavy rain for the past few days.
