Trichy: Trichy rural police on Saturday restored the body to decompose a 78-year-old woman from her two daughters who claimed they prayed to ‘revive’.
The police then said the woman must have died five days ago.
The incident occurred in Sokkampatti Village near Manapparai on Friday night where the police arrived based on anonymous calls that the foul smell came from B Mary’s residence, a retired teacher.
Police Inspector Manapparai S Karunakan said the daughter of unmarried woman B Jayanthi, 43, and B Jacintha, 40, refused to let them enter and lock the door from within.
Furthermore, the police sought assistance in the Village Administration Office (VAO) which in turn warned of women that they would open the door if they were not open.
“They stated that their mother lived and that her sacred soul would be injured if we entered the house.
Finally, they broke up and we found Mary’s body unraveled in the house,” Karunakan said to Ti.
The police flowed back to the hospital headquarters in Manappaiai.
Post-Mortem was carried out on Saturday morning but for that the police had to struggle to convince girls.
“Even after bringing the body to GH, they argue with us that their mother is still alive.
They maintain the same thing even after doing post-mortem,” the inspector said.
The police accompanied a daughter with a body which was then buried.
