Coimbatore: Tirupur MP Subbarayan on Monday asked the United States to make Tamil a mandatory subject for students in class I to X in Kendriya Vidyalaya School in the state.
In a petition for the Minister of Education Union Dharmendra Pradhan, Subbarayan said that most of the 49 Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in the state did not teach Tamil as subjects.
“Schools have followed Formula Three-Language – English and Hindi as compulsory from class I to XII.
Sanskrit is taught from class VI to VII and proceed to be optional to class X.
According to the rules, if there is a minimum of 20 students who choose to study Tamil, the arrangement must be made to teach it.
