Coimbatore: Directorate of Officials Directorate of Precaia and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday arrested an assistant engineer attached to Tangedco (Tamil Nadu Nadu and Distribution Corporation) in Chinna Thagam for receiving RS 55,000 as a bribe of a woman to shift electric lines from the ground of her pipe to the nearest place.
Officers arrested, Suresh Babu, 49, from PanniSadia near Thudiangur, produced before the Special Court for DVAC cases on Friday and then sent in Hakodi’s resistency.
In April 2021, Jayanthi, 35, Anaikatti, approached the Suresh Babu to shift the electricity line that crossed 1.5 nen in the land because he could not build a house on the ground because of the electricity line.
However, Suresh Babu demanded Rs 80,000 as bribes from him.
On July 7, he agreed to receive RS 55,000 from Jayanthi.
He explained to him that he would spend Rs 40,000 to shift the electricity line from his land to the nearest place and take the remaining Rs 15,000 as a bribe.
Meanwhile, Jayanthi approached the DVAC additional supervisor of Dhivya’s partial member who put a trap.
On July 15, Suresh Babu was captured by DVAC officials by receiving RS 55,000 from Jayanthi near the gasoline bed in the Thanneerpandal area at Chinna Thagam.
DVAC officials register pine against Suresh Babu under section 7 (a) prevention of corruption laws.
He was submitted in the Udumalpet Sub-prison.
