CHENNAI: Tasmac shops are likely to reopen early next week (Monday or Tuesday), about five weeks after the outlets were shut to contain the spread of Covid-19 cases during the second wave.
Prices may increase by Rs 10, Rs 20 and Rs 30 for every 180 ml bottle for ordinary, medium and premium brands when the shops reopen, according to Tasmac official sources.
Unlike last year, this time shops will be reopened simultaneously in Chennai along with other outlets in rest of the state.
The sources said the state-owned marketing corporation was preparing the shops to be ready for reopening on Monday or Tuesday.
“We have been indicated that an announcement on reopening wine shops from the government was expected in the next couple of days.
There won’t be staggered reopening of shops in Chennai and suburbs like last year because the number of cases were high in 2020 and the situation one year down the line is quite opposite it,” a Tasmac official said.
The government lost at least Rs 4,000 crore in revenue in the past 35 days when the liquor outlets were closed.
