PUNE: Tata Motors and Tata Power on Friday jointly inaugurated India’s Biggest grid-synchronised, behind-the-metre solar Seat in the Tata Motors Auto plant in Chikhali at Pune.
The 6.2 megawatt peak (MWp) solar scooter set up by Tata Power will create 86.4 lakh kilowatt hour (kWh) of energy annually and is projected to decrease 7,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year along with 1.6 lakh tonnes on its lifecycle.
Constructed over 30,000 square yards, the carport is not only going to create green electricity but may also offer covered parking for completed automobiles at the plant.
Envisioned as a member of its own zero carbon target for 2039, Tata Motors had entered into a power purchase agreement with Tata Power on August 31, 2020.
Regardless of the struggles of Covid-19, the two firms successfully managed to create this large carport infrastructure at a record period of nine-and-a-half weeks.
“We’ve always been aware of the necessity to save energy and are dedicated towards achieving 100 percent renewable energy supply for many of our operations,” said Shailesh Chandra, president for passenger automobile business unit in Tata Motors.
The business is a signatory of all RE100, the international initiative bringing together the world’s strongest companies driving the transition into 100 percent renewable power.
