Chennai: Tata Group solar arm arm is in the final stage of negotiations with the Tamil Nadu government because it plans to form a 4GW solar photovoltaic cell manufacturing unit in Gangaikondan near Tirunelveli.
“Investment by Tata will be around RS 3,000 Crore with the potential of employment of 2,000 locals, especially women,” said high-ranking officials in the Tamil Nadu government.
The investment commitment by Tata Group is seen as “significant”, because it will help the state to show off itself as an attractive solar power manufacturing location.
It is also expected to increase investment to the southern states that have not attracted too much until now.
The country has been home to Vikram Solar, which inaugurated its factory in July to make a panel with a capacity of 1.2gw in Oragadam.
The first solar based in the US violated the land for the Greenfield factory in the Pilapakkam near Chennai on Tuesday.
