Ludhiana: Panic holding business people in the wholesale fruit market, bath funds, on Wednesday morning after the income tax department team conducted a search for leading commission-traders who deal with organic bananas and papaya.
Accompanied by severe paramilitary strength, income tax officials not only checked employers’ account books, but also verifying physical stocks lying on the company’s godown and matching it with the numbers shown.
In other actions, RAID I-T was conducted at a leading food and feed manufacturing company located in Khanna.
This company is into the manufacture of oil products and bakery that can be eaten and has flour and feed mills too.
The residence of the owner of the company is also included in the action and paramilitary power called here also to help the I-T team.
Sources said actions against employers both in both cases were taken by the Directorate of Income Tax (Investigation), Ludhiana, and the raids were carried out simultaneously in their place in other cities as well.
In other cases, Customs made three arrests in cases of smuggling of cigarettes after misstepting them as memos.
Sources that were highly placed in the department said this arrest was made a few days ago and two customs officials including those who were arrested and the third was a customs home agent (CHA).
The date of the case until April when a Central GST Committee (CGST) team had intercepted a container on the remaining Ludhiana-Sahnewal highway from the inland container depot.
During checking, it was found that 39.4 Lakh cigarette sticks were inserted into the container, but in the accompanying document it was shown as containing aluminum memos.
