Udhagamandalam: The Tea Board India (South) has canceled 24 tea buyer licenses in the southern region because they did not send a quarterly return, which was a violation under tea (marketing) control order 2003 and tea (amendment) 2017 orders.
Cording to M Balaji, Executive Director, Indian Tea Board (South), they published a notification of 46 tea buyers in the region, looking for explanations because they did not send quarterly returns in Form F in January.
“As 24 of them did not respond, they issued a second show causing notification according to the procedure, but in vain.
After detailed investigation and verification, we have canceled the license unit,” he said.
Balaji said they were very monitoring the examination of tea samples by the auctioneer, the quantity offered at the auction center and various legal returns submitted by stakeholders, including buyers.
He said they took steps to contain forgery and the advantages of the use of tea waste in the final product.
The tea council has issued more than 140 notifications for leaf factories purchased, 58 notifications to plantation plants, 14 notifications to auctioner and 30 notifications for tea waste treatment units for the past three months.
