Times News Network Varanasi: Team Nine Researchers led by Prof.
Parimal Das, Coordinator, Genetic Disorders (CGD), Institute of Science, University of Banaras Hindu (BHU) participated in the project surrender Discovery-2020 (DDH 2020) contest immediately their idea.
Prof.
Das said that the project contest was about building ‘open innovation models’ because of the discovery of silicon drugs against SARS-COV-2.
The ideas sent from the team in CGD, BHU is about the potential for using phytochemicals to combat Covid-19.
According to him, around 3,777 phytochemicals were played from 41 different medicinal plants and then the molecular docking was carried out in the selected compounds 1,427 to test their ability to interact with SARS-COV-2 protein.
The team finally concluded that two lead molecules that greatly interact with their active sites were thus predicted to inhibit the activities of SARS-COV-2 3CLPRO and ORF8.
He said that this result could be used further to the development of the drug using the appropriate formulation and take further for clinical use after conducting safety trials.
Considering low toxicity, fewer side effects and bioavailability of these compounds, using this phytochemical to exclusively target viral proteins can be a very good strategy towards our Crusades to Covid Pandemics.
The team included research scholars from CGD Prashant Ranjan, Chandra Devi, Neha Jha, Prashasti Yadav; Dr.
Garima Jain, Dr.
Chandana Basu, and Dr.
Bhagalaxmi Mohapatra (Associate Professor, Department of Zoology) and Dr.
Vinay Singh (assistant professor, biotechnology school).
