Team in Kodagu to study human-animal conflicts

Madikeri: A team from New Delhi, who was estimed by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, visited Kodagu to study recent human-animal conflicts.
They visit conflict places, gather information and take advice from local leaders.
The team is likely to submit their report to the government.
This project is intended to provide input for national plans to be prepared by the center, to find solutions to human-elephant conflicts in the village area, especially in four countries, including Karnataka, in the forest belt.
The team is led by Neeraja Kere.
The team toured villages in Kodagu for four days, and conducted field studies and thesis work.
The team jointly conducted research with the German team.
Their input will be included as additional guidelines in national forest policies by the union government, after presenting it before Niti Aayog.
Some horticulture and experienced farmers such as Kollira Gopi Chinnappa from here, as well as environmental lovers, meet teams.
Those who suffered because the threat of elephants also met them.
They oppose the growth of teak and nilgiri trees in forest areas, which have a negative impact on wildlife.
Instead, they suggest planting bamboo and fruit trees in the forest to feed elephants, which will prevent them from entering the village and residential area.
The team showed an interest in forming a primary response team at the Panchayat level, to take preventive steps to overcome human-animal conflicts.
