(With Pics Kanpur: A group of officials Friday visited the Old Ganga Bridge (Shukla Ganj) to examine its own strength that it could be mended and revived for secure traveling and transport.
Even the Old Ganga Bridge linking Shuklaganj with Kanpur was closed for an extended period after fractures were developed under the track and also the street a couple of days back.
Aged Ganga Bridge (Shukla Ganj) is a historical arrangement of over 146 decades of History.
It is about 970 metres in length and contains a street of 5.5 metre and under a pedestrian route.
This bridge has been among the most significant factors of Transit involving Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi and Agra and countless folks used to journey from that location.
As of this moment the bridge is shut for motion and transport because several cracks have grown under the trail and the street.
Looking into security aspects, the government closed this down bridge for traveling and transport.
The government asked PWD to find the strength test completed and to determine how this Bridge could be restored and repaired to traveling and transport.
Observing this PWD approached the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) that will be a premier institute of Government of India situated in Delhi.
The group of CRRI led by Dr Rajiv Goyal lately visited the website from Kanpur to examine the arrangement and also to socialize with all the officers to get inputs.
On Friday, divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar seen with the Old Ganga Bridge website and talked about the facts and characters together with the CRRI group for additional follow up actions.
Rakesh Singh, GM Setu Nigam and Mukesh Sharma, executive engineer (project manager ) PWD followed him.
“Since this bridge is among the main transit points for individuals of Kanpur, its own repair and recovery in the oldest is that the priority of this state authorities and local government,” said the commissioner.
The government and PWD division have requested the CRRI staff to test out and also to report if the”fundamental support construction” of the bridge is undamaged and may tolerate the load when its fixed and reopened.
And to study and also provide the prospect of extending this street by 5.5 mtrs (currently ) to 2 metres so it may be utilised as two lane street for successful transport, the commissioner stated farther.
CRRI team promised the commissioner to provide the preliminary record in following one week and once the preliminary report has been approved and funds for analysis are published by PWD, afterward CRRI staff will go to the website and certainly will perform the strength investigation with required equipment and machines and will provide the report in following month.
After obtaining the record, a determination will soon be accepted for funding allocation from the authorities for its own repair and widening of this street if found viable.
