Techie About Vachana Digitization Mission

SANGAMESH.MENASINAKAHUBBALLI: IT entrepreneurs in Bengaluru have started digitizing Vachana literature written on oil palm leaves so that religious teachings, some of which are written in the 15th century, can be preserved.
Domlur Vachana, has been digitized 6 lakh texts in various mutts and organizations in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
His new effort will begin in Varanasi in January 7.Domlur told TII that digitizing the palm leaf script will begin in Kashimath Jangamawadi in Varanasi on January 7.
“We have employed four people from Bengaluru and we will rent four more in Varanasi.
Mutt said it had 180 manuscripts and which took 15 days to digitize,” he said.
Dominanjung was involved in digitizing for a decade.
He said he had found support and cooperation from Mahasabha’s lingayat and disgrades such as Swamiji Belimath, Swamiji MaritavaiDha and some Mutt in Karnataka and other countries.
“When we start digitizing Kannada palm leaf scripts, we realize that 90%.
They are related to Vachana literature.
It is interesting to know that there are many mythology, articles, analysis, discussions in the script, regardless of the vacana.
This script comes from the century 15 During the Vijayanagara era Proudha Devaraya, who was a follower of Shaivism.
Then, they were copied by Mutt Lingayat in the 18th century.
Now they are in danger of destruction and ignored.
When we approach (an organization) with our intentions, many mutts work with all heart.
Whatever we digitized, we share a copy with mutt or organization and also store them on the hard disk.
We are also working with Google to put vachanas online so it can be accessed by the entire world, “he said.
He also digitizes articles printed in papers in the 18th and 19th centuries.
“We get interesting information.
For example, Vachana literature was banned by many kings after the revolution in Kalyan in the 12th century,” he said.
“We also digitize the Shivanubhava problem every month, published by the FA GU Halakatti in the early decades of the century 20.
Other Lingayat magazines such as Kalyana Kirana are also being digitized, “he said.
The mainstomlur, the value of Rs 10 Lakh, consists of eight scanners and laptops.
“We have written donor names on certain equipment.
We have two units of 4-5 people each for this job.
They work every time we have a task,” he said.
“At present we focus on documentation.
We have a floating institute plan for script research and to spread Vachana literature throughout the world,” he said.
