Mumbai: A IT engineer from Hyderabad has been arrested for posting the threat of rape against the nine-month daughter of Indian cricket stars on Twitter after India lost their first match with the Arch Rival Pakistan at the T20 World Cup on October 24.
Ramnagsh Akubathini (23), a native of Ranga Reddy in the Hyderabad region that came out of his work as a software programmer to pursue a PhD, constantly changed his profile on social media to make Cricketer before he was finally tracked.
Akubathani was picked up by the Mumbai police team.
The Cyber Police Station in the Kurla Bandra Complex (BKC) has booked it under the Indian Criminal Code section 354 (a) (sexual abuse), 506 (criminal intimidation), 500 (deficacy) and under the Act Information Technology section 67, 67 ( B) (Punishment for publishing or transmitting material that describes children in sexually explicit actions, in electronic form).
He will be produced before the Esplanade court on Thursday.
A cyber police officer said the defendant used a fake name on social media to cover his footsteps while removing threats.
“He uses technical means to hide his identity in the online room to make it difficult for an investigation agent to track it,” the officer said.
Akubathani drove Cricketer and his wife and threatened to attack their nine-month-old sexual daughter because it came out to support the team after the match against Pakistan missing.
“Attacking someone for their religion is the saddest thing that someone can do as a human,” Cricketer said.
Next, he faced a series of online abuse.
Commissioner with the Police (crime) Milind Bharambe said the police team had brought the suspect to Mumbai.
“People think they can go free to hide their identity on social media and use a false profile to make the threat.
The cyber team is well equipped to track them,” said DCP (Mumbai-cyber) Rashmi Kandandikar.
The Delhi Commission for women also took a note of Suo Motu about tweets based on media reports and asked the New Delhi police to register fir and arrest the defendant.
