Technology College turns into a Covid hotspot

Bhubaneswar: Technical institutions in the state turned into a Covid-19 hotspot with many students testing positive in recent days.
At least 49 engineering students at Private Technical Universities in Raya, and 13 in the Fakir Mohan Medical College in Balalasore were tested positive on Monday.
Previously more than 125 students and employees of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, were tested positive.
Balasore District Covid-19 Nodal Officer Dr.
Mrutyunjay Mishra said one student from a private university was tested positive on Friday.
Then he was found to have an Omicron variant after the genome sequencing of his Covid-19 sample at the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar.
He has been treated at the Balalasore District Head Office Hospital.
Then a random Covid test was carried out on institutional students after the omicron case detection and their swab sample was sent for testing.
Ten students again found infected with a virus, he added.
All infected students have been stored under insulation in hostels and medical assistance needed provided by district administration.
Likewise, five Mits Engineering College students were tested positive on Friday.
Following randomized testing drives in college, 49 other students tested positively taking the number of infections at 54.
“Private engineering colleges have been declared as a micro detention zone and all infected students have been stored in isolation at the hostel,” said Saroj Kumar Mishra, Raya Collector.
