Gurgaon: A 17-year-old girl, who was found hanging in her room after alleged “mingling” by stalkers for months, had celebrated her birthday with family and relatives a few hours earlier.
The girl’s father, a teacher in a private school, said his daughter’s birthday on Saturday.
But because he remained fast that day, the teenager asked his parents and siblings to celebrate his birthday a day later.
On Sunday morning, the girl urged her mother to prepare Chole Bhature for lunch and invite her cousin.
He helped with cooking, cleaning the house and also washing clothes because the washing machine has developed obstacles.
“Everyone is happy.
That’s a kind of small celebration,” said the girl’s father.
The 17-year-old serves food to younger brothers and cousins, but when his mother asked him to take a plate for himself, he said he would eat later.
“He climbed up, saying he would hang clothes to dry.
Everything looks so normal.
We don’t have a hunch what happens in his mind,” said the school teacher.
When the girl did not return after a while, her sister went upstairs to check it out.
“He didn’t reply to a knock on the door.
My daughter stood on a chair and looked through the ventilator.
He saw it hanging from the ceiling fan,” his father sobbed.
The girl’s family had filed a complaint of the police, alleged that she was followed by a 23-year-old man called Rohit for several months.
The accusation was allegedly threatening to kidnap the girl and endangers her sister if she didn’t talk to her.
The girl’s father had faced Rohit, but failed to block him.
The case below section 306 (suicide reduction) of the IPC has been registered against the defendant at the Pataudi police station.
The girl’s father said they could feel their daughter under pressure, but she won’t share anything.
“He has lost weight.
Something bothered him from inside,” he said.
Police said Rohit recently landed Class IV jobs at the Punjab National Bank branch in Gurgaon.
On Tuesday, the garment shop carried out by his father was closed.
The initial probe has revealed that the girl and Rohit knows each other for some time.
“We verify the facts and try to arrest the defendant.
We will get more details only after his arrest,” said ACP (Pataudi) Veer Singh.
