New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stressed on the need to ensure the use of effective masks and social distance steps as normal for the battle of a Covid surge that spread rapidly triggered by the Omicron variant.
Speaking at a high-level virtual meeting to review the Covid-19 situation, the Prime Minister urged the need for effective implementation of home isolation for mild / asymptomatic cases and to disseminate factual information to the community in general.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to ensure adequate health infrastructure at the district level and requested officials to maintain coordination regarding this matter with countries, PMO said in a statement.
He directed officials to ensure intensive detention and active supervision in groups that reported higher cases.
He said that the technical support needed shoudl was given to countries that reported higher cases today.
PM Modi said that the administration of the dose of preventive measures for health workers and front lines and their vaccination in the 15-17 year old bracket must be taken in mission mode.
During the meeting, highlighted that 31 percent of children aged 15-18 years were given the first dose of Covid vaccines in just seven days.
He also talked about the importance of sustainable scientific research in testing, vaccines and pharmacological interventions including genome sequencing because the virus developed continuously.
“He highlighted the need to ensure the continuity of non-covid health services while managing Covid cases at this time.
He also talked about the need to use telemedicine to ensure the availability of health-related guidelines to people in remote and rural areas,” said the statement.
During the meeting, the prime minister was given a detailed presentation on a surge in recent surges throughout the world.
He was also informed of various efforts taken by the central government in supporting countries to manage future challenges.
Various prediction scenarios of peak cases are also presented, the statement said.
The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Union Amit Shah and Minister of Health Mansukh Mandaviya together with the flight secretary, home secretary, cabinet secretary, and the Chairperson of the Railroad Board.
Sunday’s meeting was the first chaired by PM since December 24.
Since then, India has seen a massive surge in the case of Delta and Omicron variants.
According to the UNI Ministry of Health data updated at 8am on Sunday, more than 1.59 lakh new Koronavirus infection was reported in one day, the highest in 224 days.
Active cases have increased to 5,90,611, the highest in around 197 days.
On May 29 last year, India has recorded 1,65,553 infections in a day.
