Coimbatore: A 18-year-old student surrendered to burn injury at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital in the city on Saturday.
He was hospitalized on 10 October after his bed was burned from the spark resulting from his cellphone connected to the charger.
The deceased, M Sivaram, 18, from Gandhi Nagar in Madukkarai, is studying the first year BSC (Information Technology) at a private college in Kovaipur.
Police said his family members heard his cry from his room on the morning of October 10.
They found his bed on fire and they showed it off and raised him to the hospital.
His father P Mayilsamy, 57, also suffered an injury while trying to extinguish the fire.
The police said Sivaram, during his treatment, told his father that he put his cellphone connected with a charger on his bed.
A sudden spark of the phone caused fire and spread quickly around the bed.
Sivaram could not escape and stuck in the fire, a police officer said.
His father filed a complaint to the Madukkarai police and said there was no rotten game in his son’s death.
The police registered the case below the 174 CRPC section.
Sivaram’s body was handed over to family members on Saturday night after postmortem.
