Kaavya Janaki Mundkur, a 12th grade student Investure Academy, has been recognized for his work on mental health through his project.
As a strange teenager and swimmer who faced physical condition at his legs from birth, Kaavya’s story was one of the perseverance, integrity, empathy and call, which helped him achieve global recognition.
“I got the privilege.
When people hear about a strange teenager growing in India, they hope to hear the story of a child who struggles to accept.
I don’t.
I’m lucky to be part of the family and school who is ready to accept me.
I can talk about sexuality and my mental health freely but for many others, it’s not the problem Others, “he said.
“As a strange teen, many people look at me as abnormal.
In my interaction of misogyny and homophobia and the news I read, I was afraid of my security constantly when I stepped out, who took the victim in my mental health.
I want to use a project Kara to alleviate this tension is not only to advocate the same rights and normalize our sexuality, but also by creating space where we can have a conversation to build a safe place, “he said.
Kaavya added: “Things became difficult in my life because my stigma forced alone and internalized homophobia.
But my family, school and friends made me leave.
There was nothing difficult when I was with people.
Only when I was alone , I began to feel low.
That’s the power of conversation.
We want Kara to become a community that will never make you feel alone.
“Kara offers contact counselors who specialize in teen mental health.
“We hope to start funding counseling because access to it is a problem because of financial status,” he added.
Kaavya plans to focus on public policy or education.
“Public policy because I want to be an active hand in the solution to the manufacture and implementation of the policy that I like – mental health and LGBTQ rights, among others, education because I believe I can continue the discussion about the subject that I like and have the same impact on my students who are Owned by my educator on me, “he said.
