Teenagers in PB failed in voter registration, a score of 30%

Chandigarh: Youth in Punjab seems to be a little interested in the selection process, if the state voter registration data is an indicator.
In accordance with the data collected by the Punjab State Election Commission, from the estimated 9.3 lakh teenager who eligible to vote in the state, only 29.98% have been registered to vote in the upcoming election of the upcoming state assemblies.
The Head of the Punjab Election Officer Karuna Raju said they would continue to register new voters up to one week before the election to increase registration.
According to data, only 2.8 lakh people in the age group 18-19, also called “voters first time”, have been registered to use their franchise.
Voter registration is the second worst in the age group of 20-29 years, which is 67.8%.
From the population projected from 58.5 lakh people in categories, only 39.7 lakh registered to choose.
High mobility in younger age groups and problems related to documentation because ongoing pandemics are given as the main reason for poor registration.
Professor of Population Studies at Research Center for Rural and Industrial Development (Crid) Chandigarh, Aswini Kumar Nanda, stated that a younger age group – 18-19 and 20-29 – often shifted the city for education or work.
Prof.
Nanda called for making a registration process more flexible, because it is not complicated at this time.
To increase registration, Raju has established a three-member committee to identify new voters in the state, especially in the adolescent population.
