Trichy: A 13-year-old girl died of suicide at her home in Trichy City on Monday, allegedly frustrated for her obesity.
A resident of Alexandria on the Cantonment, he was found hanging in a room of his house.
Police Cantonment said they were investigating cases on complaints from their mothers who were officers with a nationalized bank.
The police said the girl was class VIII in a private school in the city.
He was in his room on Monday when his mother went to work and grandparents at home.
When grandfather knocked on the door to serve his drink at night, there was no answer.
Broken family members opened the door and found him depending on using a scarf.
The police said quoting a statement from the mother and family member that the girl was assumed to be fat and determined to lose weight.
He tried a diet plan but he seemed to have been disappointed at the results.
Commissioner of Police Assistant, Various Cantonment, M V Ajay Thangam said the investigation showed frustration for being overweight could be one reason to commit suicide.
“We don’t know whether he saw every video related to the diet on YouTube and tried it but it seemed he witnessed some video in suicide,” said Ajay Thangam.
