Hyderabad: Treasure hunter allegedly tracked the 1,000 year old Jain statue in Kondapochamma Village in Jagdevpur Mandal Siddipet.
Archaeologists say one of the two statues is without head and the others are found to be damaged at the bottom.
They say two Jain statues are very important and must be preserved.
The statues were excavated during the removal of debris on the hill called ‘Nagapuru Enegutta’ located on the outskirts of condapochamma.
The white granite statue of Tirthhankara Vardhamana Mahavira and the other of Jain Chaumukh representing four Jain from Tirthankara Adinatha, Neminatha, Parswanatha and Mahavira were discovered by members of ‘Kothha Telangana Charitra Brindam’, a group of amateur historians, led by Ramoju Haragopal.
The remnants of Sitrin in Siva’s Siva Nagi Reddy, who rushed to the site, said: “The Mahavira statue at a height of 4 feet in the Dhyanamudra has no head and Chaumukh which measures 1.5 feet wide and 2.5 feet high is damaged at the base.” The two statues came from AD 10th century representing the features of Kalyana Chalukyas iconography that ruled the area.
Nagi Reddy said Hillock studded with the remnants of Basidis Jainis (temples) on the foundation and brick wall.
