Telangana Discom proposes a hike in power rates

Hyderabad: Consumer power must be more towards electricity bills from April, 2022.
Telananga Power Distribution Company – Telangana Southern Power Districation Corporation Limited (TSPDCL) and Telangana Northern Power Distribution Limited (TSNPDCL) – has proposed to increase 50 Paise per unit for domestic consumers Low voltage (LT) and Rs 1 per unit for all other consumers including commercial consumers and high tensions (LT).
As a result of the increase, the power utility has an additional income of Rs 6,831 Crore.
Discounts have submitted a power rates proposal to the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) on Monday.
TSERC will conduct public hearing by inviting objections and suggestions from the people and organizations before completing or approving power rates for 2022-2023.
“The proposed power tariff is very small and will not burden the large consumer as the proposed minimum increase also after five years,” said TSSDCL Chairman Raghuma Reddy to Ti.
The two discoms inform that while the annual aggregate income requirement (ARR) for the upcoming financial year is RS 53,054 Crore, current income income including government support at this time is around RS 42.126 Crore leaving the revenue deficit of Rs 10,928 Crore.
The deficit will be restored for rising power costs Rs 6,831 Crore and other 4,097 crore Rs of internal efficiency and government support.
Of the total additional income of Rs 6,831 Crore, Rs 2,110 Crore comes from domestic consumers lt and around Rs 4,720 crore from industrial consumers, especially industrial consumers.
Discounts say they are forced to increase power rates because Covid 19 pandemics and increase the cost of power generation and cesses by the center.
“Cess Clean Energy Increases to Rs 400 per Ton from Rs 50 per Ton Previously.
Increasing coal costs Simat around RS 800 per ton, the increase in the cost of shipping by 40% in the past four years and fuel costs,” said the discount stated .
Initially the discount had sent ARR for two years 2021-22 and 2022-2023 a month ago to TSERC.
In their ARR, the company has stated the gap of the RS 21,500 Crore between income income and their income requirements for two years.
The power utility estimates that their income requirement for 2022-23 is RS 53,053 Crore while the requirements for the year 2021-2022 are Rs 45, 618 Crore.
The state government has provided subsidies for various categories of electricity consumers, especially the agricultural sector are Rs 5,652 Crore every year.
Because discounts do not submit a tariff proposal according to the procedure, especially does not show revisions of their power rates, TSERC asks them to immediately submit.
After waiting for two weeks, Tserc rejected a proposal a week ago.
