HYDERABAD: Residential regions of Bandlaguda, Asifnagar, Shaikpet and adjacent places, situated along Musi river, are more very likely to face flooding this rainy season too in case the government release surplus inflows from Himayathsagar reservoir into the downstream in case of arctic storms.
Nine months before, several homes were overrun and taxpayers spent sleepless nights and have been left homeless in flashfloods following the floodgates of Himayathsagar were started to let the extra water.
Resources said the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is closely monitoring the water levels from the double reservoirs of both Himayathsagar along with Osmansagar.
“According to the increase in the water flow, the HMWS&SB will encounter action to consider precautionary steps to attack the flooding situation in communicating with earnings, irrigation and police sections and GHMC,” sources said.
The flood problem is partially highlighted by HMWS&SB drawing a meagre amount of water from the reservoirs and based more on Krishna and Godavari water supplies to match urban customers’ requirement.
The complete tank degree (FTL) of all Himayathsagar is 1,763 feet and the water amount (according to Thursday) stood in 1,759 ft.
Likewise, the water amount at Osmansagar reaches 1,782 feet (FTL 1,790 feet ).
“Presently the board is currently drawing 5 MGD out of Osmansagar and a second 6 MGD of water in Himayathsagar since the whole town is becoming Godavari and Krishna water,” an official explained.
The HMWS&SB utilized to draw 25 MGD out of Osmansagar and 15 MGD in Himayathsagar to fulfill up with the town’s drinking water requirement.
“We’ll use the utilization of those twin reservoirs just if Krishna, Godavari, Manjira and Singur resources warm up to appeal to Greater Hyderabad and its peripheral areas,” a senior official said.
