HYDERABAD: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) suffered a temporary setback as soon as the National Green Tribunal south zone seat in Chennai on Thursday maintained the environmental clearance (EC), issued to NTPC because of the thermal power plant at Ramagundam, at abeyance for seven weeks.

The EC was awarded to the NTPC from 2016 and it obtained amended clearances at 2017 and 2020.
Maheshwar alleged offenses and lapses from the EC contributed to NTPC in their own request.
The NGT seat stated in its own orders,”After receiving the impact evaluation report, that the MoEF should forwards the exact same to the specialist evaluation committee (EAC) for additional appraisal.
The EAC must provide recommendations.

” The NTPC was likewise directed to conduct an original research about the field for installation of flue gas desulferisation system (a group of technology used to eliminate carbon dioxide) and also do a hydro-geological effect assessment due to the ash pond because of storage of ash slurry, moreover research the effect on water quality.
“The project proponent ought to be made to run radio action and heavy metallic evaluation of coal for use.
These evaluations must also be performed for different irrigation and mitigative steps to be removed to decrease impact on surroundings,” that the NGT stated.
The NTPC was advised to run a cumulative impact evaluation of ambient air quality modelling for a radius of 15 kilometers in the project region.
