Hyderabad: Although there are no new cases from the new Omicron variant detected in Telangana on Wednesday, the number of Covid-19 cases then surged to 1.520 continuing the surge.
Of the total, 979 was recorded within the Hyderabad Municipal (GHMC) corporation limit and the number of active cases in the country rose to 6,168 for the first time in several months.
The total tally of Omicron is currently standing at 94, while the Omicron recovered patient is 45 so far.
The majority of cases have so far been reported from non-risk countries.
A total of 18 samples were collected from RT-PCR passengers at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad was sent for genome sequencing and a total of 68 samples were waiting for a report.
A total of 247 passengers landed at the airport on Tuesday and 13,652 had landed so far this month.

The case fatality rate (CFR) is at 0.58 percent while the recovery rate reaches 98.51 percent now, down from 98.99 percent only four days ago.
On Tuesday, 42,531 samples were tested for Coronavirus novels.
Telangana has now completed the testing of 2.98 crore samples and has reached 8.02 lakh sample testing per million populations.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) recorded 6,979 new cases on Wednesday while Medchal Malkajiriri neighbor recorded 132 cases, Ranga Reddy recorded 174 and Sanga Reddy recorded 26 new cases.
Outside the city of Hyderabad and its edges, KHAMMAM with 21 new cases recorded the highest number of cases outside the GHMC limit.
