HYDERABAD: The Youth Congress members on Tuesday pulled automobile vehicles with ropes at Nampally cross roads as a mark of protest against increasing prices of petrol and diesel amidst the second wave of the pandemic in the country.
Telangana Youth Congress president Shivsena Reddy said the price of petrol has crossed Rs 100 per litre in many cities at a time when the citizens are reeling under the impact of the pandemic.
“Any increase in the prices of petrol and diesel will result in the prices of other essential commodities too going up.
It has a cascading effect on the prices of other commodities,” he said.
The Youth Congress members will continue to hold protest demonstrations every day until the central government ensures that the prices of petrol and diesel are rolled back.
In a tweet, Telangana Congress president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the prices of petrol and diesel have increased 43 times this year alone.
“Senior leaders of the Congress along with the party cadre will take up protests programmes in a big way in front of petrol bunks in Telangana on June 11, by following al Covid-19 protocol,” he said.
The state Congress units would be holding such protest demonstrations at various places all over the country following a call given by the All India Congress Committee to expose the failure of Narendra Modi-led BJP government in controlling the spiralling prices of fuel as well as essential commodities.
