Telegram now has the largest user base in India because it exceeds one billion downloads throughout the world according to the report with a sensor tower.
Telegram competes with popular platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook in India but there are some differences.
Both Facebook and WhatsApp have been considered as a significant intermediary for social media in India and the two platforms are needed to follow new IT rules in India – Information Technology (PertantaGuidelines and digital media ethics code) Rule 2021.
In India, every social media platform with more than 5 million registered users are considered significant and needed to follow the new rules.
Therefore, for telegram, the government has not stated much concern about the platform until now because it is not considered significant.
But now with a user base of around 22% more than one billion registered users, the telegram is no longer fried small in India.
According to the report by TechCrunch, the telegram has reached the installation basis of 214.7 million users in the first half of 2021.
This is a large growth compared to 133 million last year’s installation.
The main text for downloading the telegram has been caused by the controversial privacy policy of WhatsApp.
While whatsapp and Facebook are now needed to follow new IT rules in India, it will be interesting to see how the government reacts to end-to-tip telegram encryption.
The Indian government wants WhatsApp to introduce traceability in chat guaranteed by encryption to end.
This is because you want to identify certain message sources to fight fake news, rumors, and false hate messages.
WhatsApp believes that introducing traceness will damage privacy and can be used by ruling people to suppress differences.
While WhatsApp has struggled to introduce tracing in court, there is no information about how the telegram will handle India’s new IT rules because it has now become a significant social media intermediary.
