Coimbatore: The surge in Covid-19 cases has forced City Corporation to close public recreational places such as parks, jogging trails, and recreational points at Waterbodies such as Valankulamp and Skkadam Piyakulam to load viruses.
Corporate commissioner King Gopal Sunkara said the recreational facilities will remain closed from Saturday to further orders.
This step has disappointed many families, which ventured to the park and zoo on that day only to find them closed to the public.
Madhan Kumar, a resident of Nanjundapuram, said, “We went to spend time away from home.
But all the point of free time is closed.
Children are disappointed because they have to spend time in front of the TV.” Santhanamari, a resident Velandipalalayam, said they would not Go if the authorities have announced the closure of the recreational place to public in advance.
“Because the park is open on Friday, we think they will open today (Saturday) too.
It’s far from home.” District administration, meanwhile, said the temple would also be closed for worshipers from Saturday.
S S Ssyat District collector said the Covid-19 case was increasing and appealed to the public to strictly follow the Pandemic protocol and avoid large meetings during the Pongal vacation.

On Friday, residents have packed public places and parks to relax with family members.
Many of them visit VOC Park and the zoo, while young people come out by riding a bicycle.
