Thane: Rainwater entered the Mohane Pump Station at the Kalyan-Dombivli City corporate boundary at the early hours of Thursday, which led to suspension while supply of water in twin cities.
“The water supply has been cut off in the Kalyan Rural area, Kalyan B Ward, Dombivli East, and West Dombivli because rainwater has entered the Mohan Pump Station,” KDMC said.
The Civic body adds that the water supply in these areas will be restored only after rain water subsides at the pump station.
Three major rivers around Kalyan and Dombivli – River Ulhas, the Waldhuni River and the Kamwari River – have overflowed due to heavy rains that have pulverized twin cities and surrounding areas since Wednesday morning.
Shahad Cordoned Off-Shahad Bridge Bridge, which is one of the main flyovers that connects Kalyan to the surrounding area, has been temporarily closed due to severe puddle.
Police personnel have been deployed near the bridge to avoid unwanted crowding and incidents.
Waterlogging has been reported from several lowland areas and areas that side by side with the body of the water.
Water has entered houses on the ground floor, as well as a number of stores, generating large damage to the property.
Powerloom and industrial units in Bhiwandi have been closed due to heavy rainwater accumulation.
People are forced to navigate waist long water to reach a safer location.
