Thiruvananthapuram: An obstacle at the crossing of venjaramoodu, which has long been a headache for motorists and authorities, is regulated to obtain a solution with the Kerala (KRFB) fund board which issues a tender for the construction of the flyover at a busy intersection.
Smarl traffic often in venjaramoodu often affects smooth connectivity to Thiruvananthapuram, especially for people who take MC roads from other districts.
According to the project document, Venjaramoodu connects five important places: Thiruvananthapuram (South MC Road), Kazhakkoottam (at Bypass NH), Attingal (West NH bypass), Nedumangad (east to SH) and Kottarakkara (North MC Road).
Venjaramoodu is one of the most dense crossing in this district.
The KSRTC operates the bus depot there and stands with the entrance and exit towards the main road.
Buses enter and get out of the stand often make traffic blocks in the area.
This intersection is also very crowded because of the presence of the venjaramood market, higher government secondary schools and several religious centers.
Therefore, to relieve regional traffic congestion, the proposal for flyover has been submitted at the intersection, document records.
This project is funded by Kiifb and is estimated to cost RS 19 Crore according to the tender document.
In accordance with the design, the flyover contains nine spices of 30m and 10 spans each 6m.
The total length of the flyover is 337m.
The Flyover has a 10.5m carriage carriage with a concrete crash barrier on both sides.
The total flyover width reached 11.50 million.
The road approach from the flyover will have a length of 56.7 m on the Thiruvananthapuram and 52m side on the Kottarakkara side.
The total length of the flyover includes road approach comes to 446m.
The road service on both sides of the flyover will have a minimum 3M width.
Road rights vary from 18.2m to 22.3 m.
Utility channels are provided on both sides of road services for various departments such as KSEB, KWA and BSNL.
Waterways and pathways will also be provided on the service road.
This flyover is designed with existing road rights, therefore land acquisition is not needed for the project.
Administrative sanctions were given to RS 25 Crore for the construction of bypass in Venjaramood in 2017.
Then, in 2019, the government gave sanctions for construction of relief, not bypass.
Additional fees must be borne for the utility shift and to provide LED street lights in the flyover, which has been estimated at RS 4.2 Crore.
According to the document, the total construction costs reached Rs 27.4 Crore, including 12% GST.
Financial sanctions were obtained for work of Rs 25.03 Crore, however, there was a slight change in design when detailed design images were prepared and submitted by the PWD wing design.
