SRINAGAR: At least three terrorists attacked a bus of Jammu and Kashmir police transporting people from Battalion 9 to Zewan police camp on Monday evening, killing two policemen and wounding 14, some of them critically, said a police spokesman.
The attack occurred at Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar.
“The source of credible revealed that the attack was carried out by Kashmiri Tiger, a branch of JEM,” said IGP (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar, adding, “In shooting one of the retaliation of terrorists were wounded.
The group is involved in this attack will soon be brought to justice .
” Terrorist actions, the boldest yet against the police, two days after militants killed two policemen in Bandipora and only a few hours after police killed two LeT terrorists, including foreigners, in a chance meeting in Srinagar Rangreth area.
“Police party came back to college after completing his duties,” a police spokesman said.
Two policemen who succumbed to their injuries ASI Ghulam Hassan and SGC (police grade selection) Safique Ali, police said.
The injured were shifted to a military hospital in the Badami Bagh, Srinagar for treatment.
Sources said the helmet-wearing terrorist bus flanked on both sides on a motorcycle and opened fire.
The attack killed 16 police were injured; two of the injured surrender their injuries in hospital, police said.
A tweet from the PMO said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been seeking details about the attack and expressed condolences to the families of the police “martyrs” in the attack.
An official said the bus had visible blood stains on the chairs and punctured by bullets on all sides, especially the front as suggested by the image on social media.
An eyewitness said local residents helped police evacuate the wounded to the hospital.
There is intelligence before the day before the attack on the existence of a terrorist with plans possibility to execute attacks against security forces in Srinagar, sources in New Delhi said.
However, a government official said intelligence J & K is not too specific.
While the names “native sounding” organizations such as The Resistance Force (TRF) and Kashmiri Tiger Force came after the attack on civilians and security forces, they are fronts for organizations based in Pakistan that was created to ensure deniability in the wake of the global pressure on Islamabad to crack down on banned outfit.

It was later confirmed that two of the injured policemen died of their injuries and that 14 wounded were in the hospital.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police J & K killed two terrorists of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, including one from Pakistan, in a brief chance meeting in Srinagar Rangreth area, near the military airport, on Monday morning.
One of the terrorists who were killed were identified as Aadil Ahmad Wani, a resident Daramdoora, Shopian.
A police spokesman said the police should put in Wanbal checkpoint Rangreth area following inputs about terrorist moments of Shopian district.
“During frisking at one of the checkpoints as two people suspected, at the party noticed the police, firing indiscriminately them.
However, the fire effectively reply (sic), which leads to a short meeting …

The two terrorists killed was involved in several terrorist attacks and played a key role in several murders, including a policeman and a civilian in Warpora Sopore March 2020, police said.
They are also involved in several grenade attacks, including one at the bus stand Sopore in which 19 civilians were wounded and two policemen were killed.
Weapons and ammunition and other incriminating material was found from the site of the meeting.
J & K Congress Committee (JKPCC) condemned the attack in the area Zewan and expressed sorrow for the loss of life and injuries.
JKPCC spokesman called the attack as “reckless and inhuman” and urged the government to identify the gunmen for exemplary punishment.
“The security situation has deteriorated to a great extent, the government must take steps to loss of life,” the spokesman added.
NC leader and former J & K CM Omar Abdullah also condemned the attack, as did the Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee.
J & K Lt-Gov Manoj Sinha said he has directed the authorities to provide the best possible treatment to the wounded and that “the police and security forces are determined to neutralize the evil forces of terrorism”.
