Test of the ‘87% + VE breakthrough case for the Delta variant ‘

Mumbai / Pune: In the largest research done so far in India to understand why people get Covid-19 despite taking one or two shooting vaccines, scientists from the National Virology Institute-based Pune (NIV) found a simple answer: B.1.617.
2 (Delta variant).
Analysis of the genome found Delta at 87% of the 677 throat and nasal wiping patients from 17 states and UTS.
While 592 of them had taken two doses, 85 only took one dose before the SARS2 virus was infected.
This study, led by Director of Dr.
Priya Abraham and Senior Scientist Dr.
Pragya Yadav, also found that less than 10% of 677 patients needed hospitalization, offending the effectiveness of the vaccine in preventing severe infections.
Three patients, who have taken photos, died, but their age and medical conditions were not mentioned.
More than 20% of these patients have comorbidity such as diabetes, hypertension or chronic lungs, heart or kidneys.
Genome analysis showed the presence of Delta variants in most samples, but there were also other variants such as Alpha, Kappa, Delta AY.1 (known as Delta-Plus variants in samples from MP and Rajasthan) and Delta AY.
2.
Covid on vaccinated people called ‘breakthrough infections.’ The NIV study, which is in the prepetball phase of publication, proves that the Delta variant – first isolated in Vidarbha in October 2020 and is now recognized as the cause of the second second wave – causing a breakthrough infection.
Dr.
Yadav said, “At present, the Delta variant causes infections throughout the world, but the most important point of our study is that vaccination offers protection of more than 99% of deaths even with very contagious and more malignant deltas.
Strain.” While 53 samples for this study, carried out between March and June, were collected from Maharashtra, the highest number was 181 of Karnataka and the lowest number was 10, from West Bengal.
Genetic sequencing is done on each positive sample to find the Delta variant.
“This study showed that the majority of clinical cases in the breakthrough were infected with Delta variants and only 9.8% of cases needed inpatient, while death was observed only in case of 0.4%.
This clearly shows that vaccination does provide a reduction in the reception and mortality of the hospital, “conclude this research.
Most of the patients in this study were still young – the average age was 44 (31-56), more was male (65.1%) and 71% of them symptomatic, with one or more symptoms.
Fever (69%) are the most common symptoms, followed by Bodyache, including headache and nausea (56%), cough (45%) and sore throat (37%).
The researchers said the breakthrough of Covid-19 infection had been reported from various countries.
“It seems that the current Covid-19 vaccine is the modifier of diseases in nature where mild or less severe infections are expected to occur in vaccinated individuals,” said this study.
Vaccination prevents severe illness, hospitalization and death, as seen in the UK, Israel and Canada.
Doctor NIV said sustainable breakthrough monitoring was important.
“Such monitoring will help us understand the need to tweak adequately available vaccines and also develop new vaccines with increasing the potential to protect against the SARS-COV-2 strain variant,” said Dr.
Yadav
