Letter: 43-year-old textile that took to sell drugs was arrested by the police on Thursday.
The police also confiscated 382g of opium worth Rs 1.14 lakh from him.
The defendant Champalal Nakum Parmar, a resident of Godadara Devadh Road, has no business since the start of the global pandemic and faces a severe financial crisis.
To bite the crisis, he began selling opium to get fast money, the police said they ordered under various narcotics parts of medicines and psychotropic substances (NDPS).
Sleuth of the Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested Parmar who committed illegal trade from his home.
He used to buy contraband goods from his contacts in Rajasthan and then sold it in small quantities to regular buyers who were billed by Rs 500 per gram.
“The defendant was a textile broker for the past 10 years and did business normally until early 2020.
He lived with his wife and two children.
His business stopped because Covid and family began to face financial problems.
He then began selling opium in the past seven months,” said SUVERA Hospital , Police Inspector, SOG.
The defendant was originally Rajasthan and had contact with the opium supplier there.
The defendant himself consumed Opium before starting his business and therefore he had an understanding of the drug.
Because opium is sold in a small amount of 5GM to 20GM, the seller usually packs it in a small bag made from a chopped corner of a small plastic bag.
“They first took a small zip bag and cut the corner.
Chopped corner used to keep five grams or more opium.
Such a small bag is used so that there is no loss of high value drugs,” Police said.
