Hyderabad: Political and diplomatic efforts seem to have taken the tag of the UNESCO World Heritage Site for a historic Ramappa Temple in Telangana.
Documents were prepared by the Indian Archaeological Survey (ASI), the Department of Heritage Telangana (DHT) and Kakatiya Heritage Trust (KHT), failed to convince UNESCO experts on the uniqueness and majesty of the 13th century Temple complex.
If the International Council report on monuments and sites (ICOMOS) submitted to the 44th session that is ongoing from the UNESCO World Heritage Committee is an indication, experts involved in preparation for documents do not produce very easy plans.
For example, when icomos requested details of the comparison of the 13th century Ramappa temple in Muluugu Regency with other temples of the Kakatiya period, documents that had just mentioned two temples – 1,000 pillars of the temple at the Hanamkonda Temple and Swayamhu in Warangal.
This describes the last two lower than Ramappa.
This is separated from the fact that Telangana wants a legacy tag for Fort Warangal and its temples.
Then, it dropped the structure of the Warang for Ramappa.
Specifically mentioning this, said ICOMOS, “The State submitted a brief addition to the comparison of the two temples in Hanamkonda and Warangal described their inferiority when compared to the Rudreshwara (Ramappa) temple in Palampet.
There was no witness of Kakatiya mentioned.” “Unfortunately, a second comparison These temples are limited to consideration that is very common in terms of their integrity and authenticity, “said ICOMOS report.
It adds that such comparative material remains important to describe the potential of the extraordinary features of the temple complex in artistic terms.
Telangana officials, however, said they would add more information after the research work today comparing the finished temples.
ICOMOS in the report shows the cracks in the document and explain how the ‘State Party’ fails to produce scientific evidence in supporting claims made for inheritance status.
When the docseluse is focused on only the Ramappa temple that ignores other structures in the complex, Icomos notes that “this nomination, as currently presented, does not meet the requirements for extraordinary universal values at this stage.” Stating that while the Ramappa Temple has the potential to show extraordinary universal values as the extraordinary testimony of the culture of Kakatiya Dynasty culture, the ICOMOS report said, “There are no cultural criteria that have been shown at this stage.” Further note that “while the condition of satisfactory authenticity, integrity conditions cannot be fully fulfilled in terms of completeness due to missing features and attributes and general vulnerabilities of temple settings as a result of the lack of protection of mechanisms.” The report also declares regret that there is no detail given about how monitoring is implemented.
“ICOMOS, therefore, considering that more information about existing monitoring programs and its implementation is needed to assess its suitability and effectiveness …
justification for inscriptions does not have a specific element of the concept of narratives and values, and integrity, in terms of completeness, and because That, it cannot be shown at this stage, “he said.
