T’GANA to KRMB: The correct rule curve of Srisailam, N’Sagar

Hyderabad: Increasing objections to the methodology adopted by the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) while completing the Operational Protocol Srisailam and Nagarjuna Irrigation Project Sagar, the Telangana Government asked the KRMB to make a correction in the rules curve by entering the provisions of the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal (KWDT) – 1.
The state government said the methodology considered to develop its rule curve was wrong and did not comply with the provisions of the KWDT-1, known as the Bachawat Award.
The rule curve or rule level determines the storage or empty space to be maintained in the reservoir during different times this year.
In a letter to the Chairperson of the KRMB MP Singh, the Head of the Special School (Irrigation) Rajat Kumar on Thursday said the allocation of the waters of the Krishna River was under the consideration of the KWDT-II.
Until the KWDT-II decided the allocation, KWDT-1 must be followed in the letter and the Spirit to share Krishna’s waters, he said.
“The rule curve in connection with the Srisailam reservoir limits consumptive use by AP to 34 TMCT, which is a maximum image that can be permitted in accordance with the agreement between countries and the Planning Commission approval,” said Rajat Kumar.
After the Gazette Center notification on the river board, KRMB on October 20 examined the rules and operational protocol curves related to the two main irrigation projects.
Rajat Kumar said the entire methodology considered in the rule curve was wrong and KWDT-1 had clearly stated that the Srisailam project – became a hydro-electric project for power plants without draining water to another watershed – did not involve the use of other water except for evaporation losses.
“Both the KRMB and the center do not have the power to re-interpret the provisions of the KWDT-1 award,” he said.
Retrieving data from 2014-15 and so on to resolve the average utilization not only violate the award but it will also function to strengthen the invalid claim of the AP to transfer the waters of Krishna to the outside of the basin through the Head of the Head of Potsirepadu and Handri Neva Sujala Sravanthi, said Secretary of Special Chief .
Officials said Nagarjuna Sagar got water from the Srisailam reservoir and needed to make provisions for storing storage in the rules curve for both reservoirs because it was the Bachawat Award mandate.
