Thane: The police have arrested a man and seized him two Spread Sand Boa, worth around Rs 45 Lakh, in Thane District of Maharashtra, an official said.
The property cell officials branch of the city police crime arrested the defendant, was identified as Sujit Mohan Ghamandli, 39, in Khambal on near Thakurli in the district on September 8, he said.
Acting on the tip-off that a man will come to Khambal on, bring him a boa sand, the officials put the trap and arrest him when he was found wandering in the area suspicious of the sack on his back, the official release said.
During the search, two boas sand, collectively worth Rs 45 Lakh, recovered from it, he said.
While one snake weighed on one kg, the others weighed 800 grams, police said.
These non-poisonous snakes are used in making certain drugs, cosmetics and in black magic, and in large demand in the international market, they add.
A violation was registered under the Law of Wildlife (Protection) of the man in this relationship at the Dombivli Police Station, police said.
