Thane: The crime branch of the Government Train Police (GRP) arrested a 28-year-old robber who would slip on the express train and rob their cellphone passengers and their baggage bags and wallets.
The defendant has been identified as Nikhil Kumar KP, a resident of Madgaon in Goa and the native of Kannur in Kerala.
While investigating the robbery case registered with Thane GRP under Section 379, the Crime Branch Unit-2 GRP said that they focused on charges after studying technical evidence and information from human intelligence and based on tip-off he was arrested by detective, said an official said.
During the question, the defendant revealed that he would target the Mumbai Bound of Conkan Railway Mail train and express train.
“Especially the target will be from a passenger bag, along with a wallet and even cellphones continue to charge while passengers are sleeping or by deflecting attention,” said a police officer.
The police have restored gold worth 50,000 and 11 different cellphones from ownership.
The total cost confiscated both collectively is worth Rs 2 Lakh.
The police said that they subsequently investigated the allegations and if he was involved in such crimes anywhere, given the modus operandi he had used to rob passengers.
Also, the police said that they found out if there was one of his hands involved in the crime.
