Thane: The police have arrested four people in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a 42-year-old jewelery in the city of Thane Maharashtra, an official said on Thursday.
Bharat Hastitimal, the owner of B Jewelers, allegedly kidnapped by an unknown man on August 14, and six days later, his body was found in Retibunder Creek in Kalwa, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Naupada) Venkat Andale.
The police then registered a murder case, and formed two teams to track the killer, the official said.
Based on CCTV recording, the police tracked the vehicle used in the kidnapping, which belonged to Ghansoli Resident Subash Surve (39) who claimed to have committed a violation with Atul JagdishPrasad Mishra (25) from Thane City and Kalwa Resident Nilesh Bhoir (35), he said.
Mishra has worked as a guard in the housing complex where the victims lived and realized their movements, the official said.
Defendant kidnapped the victim on the night of August 14 and took him to a remote place in Mumbai-Nashik Highway, where they strangled him, he said, adding that the trio stole a shop key from the victim and threw away the body on the river.
The defendant then stole gold and silver jewelry from the victim’s shop, he said.
Mishra and Bhir were arrested from Uttar Pradesh, while the police also captured the Maruti Cholkar Balwant (36) who helped the duo escape upward and restore stolen goods worth Rs 1.24 lakh, including 2 kg of silver and ornaments from him, officials said.
The police have also won revolves and bullets made by the country from the defendant, he added.
