Thane: The two workers have been arrested for allegedly killing contractors, who have hired them for home painting work, seizing him and burying his body near his house in Kolshet.
The police are looking for their three legs.
Thane Zonal DCP Vinay Rathod said the victim’s body, Hanumant Shelke (47) was excavated on Thursday and was handed over to his family for the last ritual.
The Shelke family said that he had left home on September 1, to make payments for medical care workers and never return home.
Initially, the Kapurbawdi police registered a case of missing people.
But on September 6, when the Shelke pair got a ransom call for Rs 15 Lakh to release it, the police registered a case under the IPC section for kidnapping, extortion and criminal conspiracy.
Police Kapurbawdi, along with a crime branch unit 1 and 5, performed a parallel probe and arrested two workers on Wednesday.
They allegedly told the police that they had five of them had intercepted Shelke near his house, strangling him to death, stealing Rs 10,000 and his gold chain weighing 5 tolas, and buried his body.
The arrest accusations also told the interrogators that they then made a ransom call to the Shelke pair to extract more money.
