Thane: As many as 54 units of the city in Thane City and the suburbs will begin to cram the children with free pneumococcal conjugate vaccines to reduce infant mortality here.
Officials said the vaccine which costs around Rs 4,000 per Jab is expensive but it is important to protect babies from pneumonia and meningitis after the drive to vaccinate all children to the age of two marked on Monday.
Mayor Naresh Mhaske who marked the drive said the vaccine would help prevent babies from falling prey to lung infections and thus reducing the mortality rate among infants in the coming days.
“I have asked the administration to create awareness about the vaccine between the population and encourage all parents with children under the age of one person to get a vaccinated baby,” Mhaske said.
