Thane: Civil Road Contractors have been slapped with a 10 lakh Hospital penalty because it failed to maintain the quality of the road in Thane City, city officials got information on Thursday night.
Punishment Action on Bitcon India Infrastructure Developer Contractors Pvt Ltd, rarely seen in the past few years in Thane and may be able to function as a lesson for others to ensure quality in civil works, senior public work officials said.
The action was approaching the heel of the Guardian Minister Thane Eknath Shinde surveyed roads that were highly affected in the city two weeks ago.
He has issued a firm warning to contractors to improve road conditions or face consequences.
Corporate Commissioner Thane Municipal Dr.
Vipin Sharma said that the contractor initially served a notification to explain the works below the standards executed on the stretch assigned to him, after the penalty was slapped.
Officials from the Department of Public Works City told that the contractor was awarded RS 17 Crore contract in November last year to maintain road service from Ghodbunder to Nitin Company, cutting three wards.
Stretch has witnessed a lot of work digging to put or replace the utility line for the past few months but the stretch of road has never been correctly repaired even though recurring reminders, which leads to traffic snarls here, officials said.
“This is a rare example of civilian contractors who are punished for ugly jobs.
We hope this will function as a deterrent for others,” said the city engineer Arjun Ahire.
