Thane: anti-evasion wings from CGST Thane Komisarier captured the pair on Thursday, for GST avoidance of 12.2 crore.
Rajan Chaudhary, Commissioner CGST said, “Based on detailed data mining and data analysis, a Thane-based company identified as a Datalink Consultancy was identified as a suspicious entity and investigation began with this company.
Further investigations revealed that the company provides labor to various companies high profile.
The company has collected GST from clients, but has not deposited the GST to the government for more than a year, violating the provisions of CGST Act 2017.
“Two partners of this company, which happens to be a 50-year-old husband and wife -48 years old, arrested on the day Thursday under the relevant section of CGST Act 2017.
Duo is produced before the first judge judge first and returned to the judiciary for 14 days.
If it is found guilty, the pair will face imprisonment for up to 5 years and a fine, Chaudhary tells the Toi.
The IRS officer added that this case was part of the anti-embezzlement drive launched by CGST, the Mumbai zone against Evader and tax fraudsters.
CGST Thane Komisaria, during this drive, has detected tax avoidance of RS 1023 Crore, recovered Rs 17 Crore and arrested 6 people over the past five months.
Chaudhary is further added, the CGST department uses data-mining, data analysis and network analysis tools to identify potential tax removal and fraudsters.
The department focuses on all economic sectors including the digital service and economic sector to target tax evaders that have caused unfair competition for honest and obedient taxpayers.
The department will intensify this anti-embezzlement drive in the next few days and months.
